I’d love it if we could stop using slurs in story titles...

I'm not especially happy at the notion either to be honest. But this is a tricky line for me to draw; I don't want to be put in the role of the language police, and I hesitate to enforce my ideas of what are acceptable terms (or concepts) on the authors submitting work. That said, if the community of readers feels strongly enough about it, I would be fine with adding a new guideline for the writers around titles.

This may be a can of worms best left unopened. I would hate to see Teanndaorsa, and whatever help she running this site, get bogged down in the ever-shifting definitions of what is and is not a slur. A lot of people are offended by a lot of things, and I can see this effort becoming quite involved, especially if authors start pleading their cases about why a particular word was used, or that they apply that word to themselves, or that art is allowed to be controversial, and so on.

I think the best standard would be the one that exists now: If you see something that bothers you that much, feel free to politely comment as Greyjoy did.

For what it's worth,
Eido

I feel like it’s one thing to have a story section that already fetishizes a group of people (trans women), but then we’re saying it’s too burdensome to ask that words that are thrown at trans women as insults be kept to the text of the stories? Like I get that this space was not created with real trans people’s experiences in mind, but sometimes a girl wants to get off without being insulted, you know? And I don't want to hear the "but anything can be a slur nowadays" copout. This is real life, not a hypothetical.

I hope that y'all know that being trans in real life is way hotter than these stories describe ;)

I should hope so! :-P

But I think that given the titles are very much thrust in your face as you browse the front-pages, even if you wanted to avoid particular themes or authors, allowing offensive terms in the titles means it's hard to choose to avoid them and still use the site. So on consideration I think that I will add a policy to that effect, and will enforce it on future submissions.

In regards to having a category that fetishises a particular group, I do appreciate that concern too. I would like the Plaza to be a sex-positive and inclusive place. The issue with kinky fiction in general is that the deviant / contrary nature of it means that sometimes the negative is what makes it positive. That it is okay to find the notion of pain or torment hot; the characters in a story can go through something harsh, so that the readers can embrace the parts of it that they find exciting and sexy. However that contrariness does make it very difficult to draw any sort of clear lines on what is and isn't acceptable. Who am I to judge what other people find erotic? I might find a story's content deeply troubling, and yet for the intended readership it's exactly the sort of passionate exploration of their under-served kink they were looking for.

So I try very hard not to apply my own social norms on the works submitted, but I do still have to balance that with a desire to serve the readership. Especially when the story is in an area that does not align with my own kinks, in which I am not well placed to judge what is just pushing boundaries and what is offensively problematic. So I am dependent on the readers themselves to tell me what they find troubling, and why; just as I depend on them to tell me when stories do appeal to them. A story which has both fans and detractors is simply controversial, which is to be expected. A story with only detractors will signal to me that there is potentially something wrong and we've drawn a line in the wrong place. So thank you for your feedback Greyjoy; it definitely does help.

Thank you so much! That's all that I ask. I definitely agree about not judging other people's non-normative desires! As someone who finds the incest category hot, I also understand that it's best to not include triggering language in titles! Thank you again for your understanding!

as a trans woman myself (who still needs to change her forum name. lol) i fully agree. i'm getting real tired of seeing this slur thrown around in porn and erotica. Sissy is one thing. but Tranny is a word that has always been harmful to the trans community.
W...wait, don't throw me away! I'm your cute little femboy! Don't you wanna play with me?

No?

B...but......*Slam.* oh. Okay.
