Disappointing Data Loss
« on: July 15, 2017, 02:21:01 pm »
So I have an active project that I had set aside when I began the Stone Basin Coven story for last years Halloween special. Since then I have been focused on the follow up stories to Stone Basin Coven.

Last night I went back to reread the story I set aside only to discover the last couple of narratives were gone from the document.

Of course I remember the broad strokes of those sections, but I have lost the minutiae.

It felt like a gut-punch, and it hit harder when all my backups were at the same point or earlier.

I feel your pain Loras Pa6.

(You have one of those usernames that doesn't roll off the tongue, are you more comfortable as a Loras, or a Pa6, or a Loras Pa6?)

I moved to Scrivener about a year ago, instead of using Word for everything.
It automatically backs up your work to a specified location on a regular basis.
I sometimes manage to lose work anyway.

Loras is fine AmyAmy, the last part would likely never roll off the tongue well. Pаб is the Russian word for slave and is pronounced perab. When I took that penname I was literally Lora's Slave.

Typically I work in basic ASCII TXT Format and use a Text editor on my phone while on the go that automatically sync's the file between my phone, my Dropbox and my PC. Unfortunately somewhere along the line an older version must have been opened and saved over my more recent version. How that happened I am clueless on :-[

I shall rebuild as they say.

I electronically lost a story once that I had nearly finished and ready to send, the resulting forced rewrite I think actually producing a better product in the end.

Hope this helps, Jackie.
