Well, while I wait (in vain) to hear from the author of the other story I mentioned, I did have a story I read from a long time ago that I'd like to see if anyone can find.
The story is about a girl who's been found guilty at a trial. It's intercut between bits of the judge admonishing her, and her last moments of freedom; working her job as a waitress, going home to finalize her things before submitting herself to imprisonment. Eventually you find out the judge sentenced her to be either mummified or encased, I can't remember which, but the judge says it's a fitting punishment for her crime...which I also can't quite remember, if the author stated her crime at all.
I realize this is a bit of a longshot, but I hope I've described enough of the story in detail to give you guys enough clues. I remember reading this a long time ago...I would not be surprised if this story was from around 2002-2004.
Hoping you sleuths find something!
