Sending in stories
« on: February 25, 2018, 03:17:40 pm »
I'm just curious about how long it takes between sending in a story and when it is posted?  I sent in a story almost 3 months ago and have not seen it posted, nor any reply back with any time frame or acknowledgment of receiving.  I've written a few stories and eager to write even more, but I'm reluctant to continue because of this.

A few weeks ago I wrote an email again asking for any kind of acknowledgment, but have not received a reply.  I know Gromet posted that he was busy and all, so I'm hoping that's just it and the messages just got missed or he's just too busy.

Anyone know how it all works?

I'm contemplating just posting them in the forum and hoping they eventually get posted to the site too. Thoughts on doing that?

Long wait times are one of the facts of life at the Plaza. Gromet is a one-man-show with a life and a job and all that. Sometimes it takes him a while.

I know it's frustrating when you've sent in a story that you think is good and you want others to read it.

But it's worth the wait when it does get published and you start getting positive feedback.

Ok thank you for the responses.

No problem if I have to wait, I was just not sure the process and whether it was even received.  A "thank you for your submittal" email back, or even something in the writers guide about how long it may take (I didn't see anything after looking), might be helpful for those new to submitting stories. Just as a helpful suggestion. :)

Tobe_Trashy, I usually send an email reply to state that I have your story safely. I've checked through my emails and cannot find your story, there are currently no stories waiting for the Trashcan Stories section. Please send me your story again. Or post it to the forum.

Things like that happen, but not very often here.  I've had to check with Gromet two or three times about stories I'd sent in, but that's stretched over a lot of years.  Email's record is better than the post office when it comes to lost mail, but the occasional one does still slip through the cracks.

I'm glad I asked in the forrum then! I checked and the email address is correct, I had tried twice, no bounce emails, and I had previously sent in a story for the Halloween special only a few months earlier with no issues.  Weird.

I just tried one last time and sent it to two email addresses listed on the site. Will wait to see if they were received. Otherwise yes I will just post into the forum.

Thanks everyone.

Hi there Tobe.
If I send a story to Gromet there were two email addresses for new stories. I sent my stories to both of them.
Gromet always replied back and also tells you when they will roughly be put up which is pretty cool of him.
The earlier replies to your enquiry said Gromet is a one man band doing the lot, but he always reads the stories and places the story codes on them when he uploads them.
There are story sections that allow you to post your own stories up here though which maybe an option for you in the interim.

Authors can send their stories to either;

stories@grometsplaza.net
or
gromet999@bigpond.com

Or post them on the forum.

The upgrades to the site are near completion in the main story sections, as you can understand with so many stories to reformat and fix, plus the reformatting of the main, title and author pages it takes time to do, even with a web genius like Webnik helping. So hopefully we're now back on track, the first proper update using the new format is on Latex Stories today, far easier for me to prepare and upload.

Thanks to everyone for their patience whilst the site is re-built from the ground up.
