Praeses - I love it. However, I am a postdoctoral Latinist at what the New Yorker recently called "The World's Weirdest Library" and I'm right up there with them. To help ordinary plebes - which is derived from the Latin for "the common man", it might be worth explaining that President is an anglicisation of Prae sedent, "The Man Sitting In Front OF You". Praeses means much the same, "(The person) sitting before you", and it's the first time I've come across such a gender-neutral term for the post. Let's hope the reality comes true soon. At least it's beat The Last Trump.
