What does the story code "Reluctant" mean to you as a reader or writer?

Dear Readers, I thought about making this a poll, but I wonder if polls inhibit discussion. I like to read your thoughts and not just a poll response.

Anyway, what does the story code "Reluctant" aka "reluct" mean to you?

Also, a follow-up question, what level of reluctance do you associate with this code, on a scale of the character's attitude being: 'No, I really shouldn't, but okay, tie me up, lock me in chastity, and screw me' to 'Hell no. Come any closer and I shoot, but give me a week to reconsider'?

In my mind the 'reluctant' as I define it falls into two main concepts:

Willing, but has reservations about the 'event', second thoughts going into it kind of thing

or

Not initially willing, but coerced to accept. Maybe an offered Quid Pro Quo type of situation but not a 'no option but to' situation
