I finally got around to reading through this year's Halloween stories and I have to say that this one stood out to me. The use of second person perspective is rare and it's rarely done well, but in this case it really added to the atmosphere. The way the central character's story unfolded was also captivating, the mini-flashbacks and disjointed imagery really playing up the feeling of being lost in an increasingly nightmarish situation with the growing realization that it was actually real building and building until the very end. And the ending, when the girl was taken and claimed by the demons or fae or whatever the creatures hunting her were, perfectly capped off the events and tied the myth of the forest that had been woven throughout together.
Excellent work, I hope to see more like it.
