Interesting story, took a few readings to get an image how the device might look like.

I wonder if someone builds "puzzles" like this.

I thought the story to be excellent. The build up as Vanessa continued to get deeper and deeper into her situation with the puzzle was great. Her tenacity of having to figure the puzzle out on her own is so much like myself...I can't let things, especially inantimate objects, best me.
