Thank you everyone for the kind words! This took about 9 months to write, so it's heartening to see that people are reading and enjoying it!
I do have some good news. I have already written chapter 7, and about 1/3 of chapter 8. The next "part" will be composed of 5 chapters, so I am hopeful that it will not take another 9 months :)
I was worried that the pace would be too slow... I'm not going to "rush" ahead, but things will happen a bit more now that the intro is done.

I'm currently halfway through chapter 10. Once chapter 11 is done, I will begin final revisions and then submit this next arc of the story (chapter 7-11). I don't have a firm deadline (it's a hobby!) but I'm pretty sure it won't be 9 months for the 2nd arc. Feeling motivated and full of ideas!
In fact the "full of ideas" is a challenge - hard to focus on one chapter when your mind is already 10 ahead. But it's coming! :)

I just wanted to say thank you for this story, which I've read five times since August. I love long stories that progress slowly and don't fall into the vulgar. We really get attached to the character, and seeing Judith blossom in her new job and River is really enjoyable. I'm looking forward to seeing how she will investigate the institute after this experience, and maybe know what happened to the previous inspector, who the Baron was, etc.

Thank you so much for the feedback! Things have been progressing slower than expected (the end of chapter 11 is proving harder than I expected, with no clear reason why) but they are coming.
I'm happy to report that chapter 11 is now done. It will take a bit more time, but I am hopeful that Tome 2 will be published soon!
While stuck on chapter 11, I wrote chapter 12 and part of 13. Tome 3 will probably have 7 chapters. So yup, the story is nowhere finished, although I already know how it's going to end :)

Thank you! When I started writing this, I wasn't sure if the story would appeal to anyone, but it's been very motivating to see that yes, others "get" it.
Tome 2 is now "officially" in the publication pipeline - I know there is a queue so it may take a few weeks, but it's coming!
edit: looking back at this thread, I see that even though I got "stuck" for a while, Tome 2 took 6 months instead of 9 for Tome 1... let's hope that trend continues! :)
